AT THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE PAGE 4 1.1 – THE FIRESTORM STARTS Internal (NCI) emails dealing with the firestorm that broke out after the public first noticed the website. Most read something like; -- “Hi, someone pointed out that the cannabis summary had some positive comments on www.drugwarrant.com. ” Or that some reporter was asking too many questions or that someone was going to be talking about this subject on the Dr. oz show, etc. Hi, Someone pointed out that the cannabis summary had some positive comments on www.DrugWarRant.com Robin Subject: RE; concern about information on NCI’s website All --- A follow up on this. Last night Ethan Nadelman, Executive Director of the Drug Policy Alliance, tweeted this message: “US National Cancer Institute acknowledges “potential benefits of medicinal cannabis for people living with cancer.” http:/1.usa.gov/faKVIP” This is an organization aimed at changing drug policy and promoting the legalization of marijuana—in direct conflict with the administration’s state policy. We will be contacting our colleagues at ONDCP (Office of National Drug Control Policy) just to give them a heads up about it. Let us know if you make any changes to the document. Thanks. Subject: RE; concern about information on NCI’s website I was just writing a message to Rick to forward this attachment. Donald Abrams is scheduled to appear on the Dr. Oz show tomorrow and apparently there will be a debate about medical marijuana. I think the show was taped last week and I don’t know if he mentioned the PDQ summary or not. Subject: READ; Summary Statement Talking Points Apparently they have prepared TP’s for appearances on the Dr. Oz show tomorrow. CNN has also contacted them, So we [‘ll] have to see how they speak publically about this issue. Clearly, Leonora has been very busy today. Interesting that she [ ] the one handling it – not sure where their policy people are. Let me know if you need anything from me. Subject: Cannabis definition To Whom It May concern, This is Kyle Daly, a reporter with The American Independent. I noticed that on your summary of cannabis and cannabinoids, a reference to cannabis’s anti-tumor effects has been removed from the “general information” section. I was hoping someone might be able to speak with me about what was behind the NCI decision to add tumor properties. I can be reached at this email address or by phone at 434-239-3496. Thank you.
