INDEX OF ILLINOIS (Reefer Madness Era) NEWSPAPER ARTICLES FOR whatever reasons no existing library indexing system seems to have a specific location finder for the Reefer Madness campaign. Thus forcing almost each and every new researcher on the subject, into the situation of almost having to start from scratch. And thus the reason for the following index of old Reefer Madness articles. AND NO it is far from complete, and NO, NOT ALL of the mentioned articles can in all cases even be considered as having a Reefer Madness theme. IN fact, it seems to consists mostly of articles that this museum has been able to get its hands on and no more. HOWEVER, (again for good or for bad) it seems to be the only such list out there, and thus can serve as a good starting point for the researcher. NOTE that this index list also contains a lot of internal codes (meant solely for use within the museum), for example [N.W.R.] means “Not Worth Reading” ; Radio means that it talks about an old time radio program etc. Once more, not that this list is NOT complete and should be thought of solely as a starting point. Think of it as a list of those articles that the museum has been able to locate and no more. EVENING COURIER - Urbana IL. They will not be taken before the trial board, however, to answer for apparent intoxication, as it was due to inhalling a narcotic arising from piles of hemp which were ablaze. The fire started in the hemp mills of the plant early in the morning. The first detachment of firemen to arrive went into the mills, only to stagger forth a short time later overcome by the fumes of the burning hemp. Others who followed them met the same fate. A short time later firemen were sitting and lying about on the ground near the mills utterly unable to account for their strange sensations. The solution of the strange antics of the city fire fighters was not given until several hours afterward, when it was learned that the men were overcome from the fumes of the burning hemp. In the smoke was a narcotic which is famous in far eastern countries fro its intoxicating effect. When the hemp burned the firemen inhaled the hasheesh arising from the product and immediately assumed all of the characteristic of intoxicated persons. The loss was about $15,000.
