THE ANTIQUE CANNABIS BOOK
Chapter 3 - (2nd Edition)
North Carolina -- The Boone Collection

Section 4
OTHER MEDICINES prescribed by the Doctors Boone

Examples of prescriptions of "now control substances" - Other then Medical Cannabis:

To gage the full importance of this collection and because so many prescriptions for cannabis were located, it is important to place the collection in context.   First, well over ten thousand prescriptions (written by the Drs. Boone) were located, and of these less then 300 of them were for Cannabis.   Meaning that the Drs. Boone were not hung up on Cannabis --- to them it was simply another medical tool, there to be used when needed.

In addition (again bringing the collection into context), it is important to note that the Drs. Boone, were NOT just writing prescriptions for Cannabis, but for just about everything else.   As this web-page shows, they also wrote prescriptions for various other [what we would now term], ‘Control Substances.’

Holloseay1929
Prescription for Cocaine - 1930

Dr. Welsh
Prescription for Codine - 1934

Dr. Whaue
Prescription for Morphine - 1931

Dr. Rigsbee
Prescription for Opium - 1932

Dr. Goudge
Prescription for Heroin - 1932

However, as a preemptive strike, just in case someone out there thinks they were drug happy, of the over 10,000 prescriptions from the Boones that were looked at, less then a tenth of 1 percent were for, what we would call, addictive substances and ALL of them seem to have been prescribed for legitimate medical uses.
