CAMPAIGN 2014
MEDICAL MARIHUANA
---- A WHO’S WHO OF THE CANDIDATES:

What follows is a list of individual candidates who, to the best of our knowledge, support the re-legalization of Medicinal Cannabis or Medical Marihuana.   In response to our one sentence quire; -- which was as follows:
"Candidate Question:"
"I'm with a pro-Medical Cannabis group and would like to know what your stand is toward Medical Marihuana? "
We received various, short but very positive replies for what used to be a very unspeakable, very taboo subject.   And while (the truth be told), a little more than half of the candidates did not respond to our survey; -- it can be presumed that they are in opposition and just don’t feel like loosing some votes.   Still one is shocked at just how many people are now breaking the taboo.   Especially given the fact that just a few years ago, among elected officials, we only had one or two lone voices speaking out on the subject.   Now it seems that there is a whole crescendo of voices calling for an end to the anti-Medical Marihuana laws.

And while no one can tell you who to vote for, if you are like us (and if you're viewing this pro-Medical Cannabis website, we assume you are), we hope that you will take their stance on the subject into account.

NOTE:   If you are a candidate with viewpoints on the subject, please do contact us.   Also, if you are a candidate and we have misquoted you, please do contact us and make correction.

"I believe medical marihuana has it's legitimate place and there is no logical reason to prevent a doctor from prescribing it. The argument that it will be abused if its made available medically isn't a legitimate argument in that there are prescription drugs out there right now which have no other therapeutic value other than as a pain killer. The federal government has already ruled there is a therapeutic value arrived from the use of marihuana. Their contention that the therapeutic value can be synthesized or made available without the pain killing high fails to recognize the value of the substances other medical values such as in the treatment of seizures. I believe we need to leave the medical decisions to the doctors, not the government."

OKLAHOMA ELECTION 2014
BREAKING THE TABOO

Polls show that over 70% of Oklahomans support doctor recommended Medicinal Marihuana, yet despite this (and much Medical evidence), until very recently only a handful of elected officials DARED to openly call for an end to the prohibition.

This was due to various reasons, one of them being that the powers that be simply don’t want the situation to change.   According to a Tulsa World (newspaper) article; -- listing the top recipients of campaign contributions from the Private Prison Industry:
  •    - Gov. Mary Fallin $38,250
  •    - House Speaker T.W. Shannon $35,950
  •    - Sen. Clark Jolley $29,301
  •    - Treasurer Ken Miller $17,500
  •    - Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb $14,500
  •    - Insurance Commissioner John Doak $12,250
  •    - Sen. Rob Johnson $11,250
  •    - Sen. Don Barrington $9,635
  •    - Sen. Dan Newberry $8,750
  •    - Rep. Todd Thomsen $8,400
And obviously someone is expecting some BIG favors in return.   Like making sure that those prisons are full of Marihuana prisoners etc.

And yet another major reason has to do with the large amount of mis-information still out there.   Example:   In reply to our quire, one candidate stated as follows:
"I believe that we don't have to smoke marijuana to receive its medical effects. There are currently products available out there that contains the active medicinal ingredients of marijuana.   These products can be ingested without a person "getting high.   "While the marijuana plant has known medical value, that does not mean smoked or ingested marijuana is medicine."
Here we will make no effort to counter-act the above wording with the truth as we have already addressed these issues numerous times. [see http://reefermadnessmuseum.org/chap04/Oklahoma/OK_MainAnswer.htm] Instead we will simply state that this one candidate needs a lot of education on the subject.

BUT AGAIN, this is campaign 2014 and much is changing.   No longer can mis-information be circulated as if it were the Gospel Truth, as there are many now who are calling these words into question.   No longer can candidates simply hold on to their old (but meaningless) mantras about the evils of the “Weed of Madness” etc., as the Medical Evidence keeps piling up.

However, the truth is becoming more common, there are still those who hold on to their old ways.   Those who need our prayers, for as Jesus says “Know the Truth For the Truth will set you Free.”
