IN OKLAHOMA: Section 7 Compound Verses Cannabis Medicines: The following prescriptions were selected at random from the Dr. Huddleston collection, consisting of numerous Medical Cannabis prescriptions - era 1929-1937. These three examples are all taken from the year 1931. AFTERWARDS Although we were able to obtain thousands of his (Dr. Huddleston’s) prescriptions, there is a hole between the years 1932 and 1936, by which time we were not able to locate any more of his prescriptions for Cannabis. However, we were able to find prescriptions by him for compound drugs (which contained Cannabis as one of their key ingredients). One can only assume that he had to stop due to the Reefer Madness campaign, which was at its height at the time. However, even these seem to have stopped after Oct 1937 and the coming of the Marihuana Tax Act. Remembering that this was the height of great depression, the tax placed a crippling one-dollar an oz transfer tax on its distribution. And this was on top of other drugstore registration taxes required by the Act for the privilege of even selling Cannabis Medicines. Needless to say, few (only four in the State of Oklahoma) bothered to do so.
