PART 4
ANSLINGER’S COVER-UP
Remembering that in 1936 the Federal Anti-Medical Marijuana laws had not yet been passed into law.   Harry Anslinger must have now found himself facing a major dilemma.   What to do about the Eureka Axe Murderer case?

The very reason (the very logic) behind the creation of the anti-Medical Marihuana laws laid (according to him) in his assertion that its use led to violent crime.   That the most bestial acts of violence were occurring as a direct effect of its evil influence.   As one Federal Judge would (less than a year later) state:
"I consider marijuana the worst of all narcotics, far worse than the use of morphine or cocaine.   Under its influence men become beasts. Marijuana destroys life itself.   I have no sympathy with those who sell this weed.   The government is going to enforce this new law to the letter."
Anslinger’s Gore File, consisting of specific examples of such bestial acts, was being touted at the time as solid proof that this was the case.   Thus anything that would cast doubt on his Gore-File, ---- well, let’s just say, FOR HIM (or for his co-conspirators), the exposure of even one of his Gore-File cases as a fraud would not be a good thing.   Anslinger needed a cover-up.

WARNING
The following is opinion – the Museum has no solid proof, (other than simply logic and reason) that this is the way it happened.

THE CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE:
There are many out there who DO NOT believe that the creation of the anti-Medical Cannabis laws were a part of any conspiracy.   To those individuals, one must ask, how could Anslinger (acting alone) have possible crushed ALL public mention of such a gruesome act.   America does after all have a free press, thus one must ask, WHY did ALL the news media one day just get up and buried the whole story?

I mean, if I were a yellow journalist the likes of William Randolf Hearst, ---- just think how someone like that could run wild with a story like this.   With a headline like, “HEAD NARC LIES” and a sub-caption reading, “Ah Ha!, -- We Got the Goods on This Guy!.”   But nothing, not one newspaper run the story.   It was like a conspiracy of silence had occurred . . . . as indeed it had.

Only looking backwards in time, is one able to see the invisible hand that was at work

(STEP 1) – Eureka Calif., BECOMING AN UNMENTIONABLE SUBJECT:
It becomes obvious that Harry Anslinger (no fool he) STOPPED all personal mentions of the Eureka Axe Murderer, AFTER late 1936.   Example, in his famous 1937 “American Magazine” [5] [6] article, in which he makes mention of one Gore-File case after another, NOTHING, not one word is to be found about the Eureka Axe Murderer.   In fact extensive research of ALL of Anslinger’s public statements (made AFTER late 1936) shows absolutely nothing; NO mention of the Eureka Axe Murderer anywhere.   The same thing can be said of the whole of the Bureau of Narcotics – everyone was now keeping quite as a mouse. --- Thus obviously someone had to have issued such orders.

(STEP 2) – OTHER NARCOITC AGENCIES ALSO BEGIN TO COVER-UP
As has been shown even before Anslinger began his own cover-up, Wm. G. Walker and his Calif. state narcotics police, had already started a cover up of their own.   No sense in bring up a colorful, if somewhat fictitious past, etc.   And the author for one can assure you that to this day, no-police agency associated with the state of California will admit knowing anything about the Eureka Axe Murderer. ---- And granted while true Anslinger did not have anything to do with this one, it also didn’t hurt his own agenda either.

(STEP 3) – ANSLINGER TAKES CONTROL OF THE NATIONAL PRESS
Although beyond the scope it is felt by the author that the AP (the Associated Press) played a major role in the creation of the Reefer Madness dis-information campaign.   And thus there is no way of avoiding the obvious, that the ones calling the shots at the AP were an integrated part of the conspiracy.   However, we can leave that for another day.   What is important is that Anslinger or someone at the AP pressed a switch and after Nov of 1936 – no further mentions of the Eureka Axe Murderer was made.   The same can be said for various other Nation wide news sources; Example, the United Press (control by William Randolf Hearst) also remained silent as a church mouse over the subject.   And with nether a nation-wide source, nor the Bureau of Narcotics talking about the subject, even the smaller local newspapers were a little wont to carry the story.   And while many of us do not like the idea of having a control press; --- This is just a historical fact.   Before late 1936 the Eureka Axe Murder is mention, afterwards no mentions can be found.

(STEP 4) – DAMAGE CONTROL TAKES PLACE
Despite Harry Anslinger’s best efforts, (figuratively speaking) the cat was out of the bag.   Which is true, even Anslinger couldn’t control each and every magazine editor or writer, especially the lazy ones who could just look at there old files and simply rehash their old stuff.   The following are offered as examples of some of these cut and paste jobs: [7]
“In Eureka, California, an addict under the influence of marihuana decapitated his best friend. Coming out of his drugged condition, he was horrified at what he had done.” ---Inside Detective (Magazine) Nov 1937

“The weed acts as a powerful aphrodisiac and renders users capable of various acts of violence; a California man decapitated his best friend while under the violent spell of the smoke, . . “-- News Week August 14, 1937

California. A man while under the effects of Marihuana decapitated his best friend, then corning out of the influence of the drug was amazed and horrified to see what he had done. --- Finger Print & Identification Magazine March 1938 pg3

”It happened in California. A man under the influence of marijuana actually decapitated his best friend. Then, coming out from the effects of the drug, he was as horrified as anyone could be at what he had done.” -- Heath Magazine Oct 1938
Nor could Ansinger halt mentions made just before or shortly after he put the brakes on the subject.   The following being examples:
“Practically every article written on the effects of the marihuana weed will tell of deeds committed without the knowledge of the culprit, while he was under the influence of this drug.   There are many arguments for and against this statement, and many cases reported which uphold it, and still others which contradict it.   Our opinion is that both arguments for and against are correct because of the inconsistency of the action of this drug on individual victims.   The reactions resulting depend to a large extent on the innate characteristics of the individual.   The person who is so unfortunate as to come under the influence of this drug, in many cases, becomes the unwilling offender of the law because the central nervous system has become affected, as is the case with other habit-forming drugs.   As a representative case, note the tragic predicament of this Californian.   "A man under the influence of marihuana actually decapitated his best friend; and then, coming out of the effects of the drug, was as horrified as anyone over what he had done" ---[Quoting - W. G. Walker, Chief, Division of Narcotic Enforcement, San Francisco, California, July 1, 1934] --- 1937 Congressional Testimony -- Marihuana - A More Alarming Menace To Society Than All Other Habit-Forming Drugs

“The Chief of the Narcotic Enforcement Bureau of California in a report to the Federal Bureau gave an interesting example of this "Marijuana", he wrote, "has a worse effect than heroin.   It gives men the lust to kill, unreasonably, without motive - for the sheer sake of murder itself. In Eureka, California, a man under the influence of marijuana actually decapitated his best friend; and then, coming out of the effects of the drug, was as horrified as anyone else over what he had done." ----Health Officer - Dec. 1936
Here (once again), for those of you who don’t believe in conspiracies, just ask yourselves.   How was it possible for such a statement (see above) to have been entered into the Congressional Record, without any kind of correction being made by Anslinger, who was right there at the time.   Obviously something was going on behind the seen ‘s.   In fact, one must almost admire the man, after all, how many people does one know of who could have pulled it off.   How many people could have instigated a nationwide cover up, one that lasted until well after his death.
